  2. Operation Outreach:

  3. A national effort by the American Legion at all levels

  4. Why me? • No one is in a better position to evaluate and respond to the needs of U.S. military service personnel and their families in your area than you and your post! • We all have truly been there and done that

  5. As of Feb. 28, 2009 1.5 million are on active duty with an additional 850,000 in the seven reserve components

  6. How do I do it?? • Preparation • Download packet from internet • http://www.legion.org/whatsnew/bulletins • Check to see if you have the Operation Outreach DVD. If not, contact your Department leadership • Ensure you have your materials in hand. (TS2 pamphlet, Family Support Network, TFA, Why You Should Belong) • First contact • Arrange meeting with Cmdr. • Show video *Remember- the briefing is about support and service- Not membership. SERVICE FIRST; MEMBERSHIP WILL FOLLOW

  7. How do I do it?? • The Event • Ideally, the meeting with the Commander will result in an opportunity to address the troops during a drill • Frequently, young service members have little or no knowledge about The American Legion • Consider this briefing an important educational briefing for them

  8. What’s on this DVD? • Answers several questions: • Why does The American Legion provide Troop Support Services? • Touches on Temporary Financial Assistance (TFA) • Promotes the TS2 pamphlet • Provides an overview of The American Legion • Most importantly, it thanks each member for his or her service
