ITU-T SG 16 Overview ITU-T SG 16 is • Responsible for “Multimedia coding, systems and applications” • Lead Study Group on • Multimedia coding, systems and applications • Ubiquitous applications (“e-everything”) • Telecom/ICT accessibility for persons with disabilities • Three Working Parties and 23 Questions • 200-250 participants from 24-26 countries

Area of studies • Maintain end-end speech transmission quality • In collaboration with SG12 & FG-CarCOM • Vehicle gateway platform • Ubiquitous multimedia applications • Remote office, remote sensing, etc • As a part of Home Network in NGN • In collaboration with SG13, JCA-HN and the expected new FG on Smart Grid • Total communications concept for including Telecom/ICT accessibility in the design phase of new standards... • ... but also retrofit where needed

  4. Recent achievements and Future plans • Dynamic coordination of signal processing equipment over telephone connections • Rec. G.799.2 (approved Nov 2009) • In cooperation with ITU-T SG12 & FG-CarCOM • Vehicle Gateway Platform • Service and functional requirements of vehicle gateway platforms (F.VGP-REQ) • Multimedia/Home Network applications • Virtually organized Home Network (H.VHN) • Telecom/ICT accessibility • Telecom accessibility guidelines (ITU-T F.790) • Accessibility checklist for new Recs.

  5. Conclusions and suggestions ITU-T SG 16 will continue to develop multimedia standards for networked car applications as the cross-over areaof CarCOM, Home Network and, potentially, the expected smart grid studies • Ultimate target is the end-users’ satisfaction • Duplication of standardization work should be avoided • Coordination/harmonization among SDOs is encouraged • SG 16 is open for collaboration with you
