  3. Preparation Talk about each other’s Clubs/Societies Talk about any past sponsorship Think about what your group could get sponsored. Pick one idea each that you’ve never had sponsored before and discuss that to formulate it into a sponsorable ‘product’ BE CREATIVE!

What can you sell?Think outside the box! • Hoodies • Socials • Kits • Sporting events • Trophies • Competitions • T-shirts • Wristbands • Lanyards • Balls • Freshers’ Packs • Excursions • Newsletter • Social Media • Emails • Retweets • Youtube • Leeds Student/LSR Advert rates • Be REALISTIC! But don’t undersell yourselves – it’s easier to negotiate down

They train 4 times a week and play matches weekly on a Wednesday afternoon. They also play some one-off weekend tournaments throughout the year. 11. Leeds University Union. Contracts: the basics

  12. Introduction What does the Student Advice Centre do and how can we help?

  13. Knowledge? Has anyone got a phone contract? Has anyone read their housing contract or had it checked by the Student Advice Centre? Has anyone taken out an agreement and it hasn’t worked out exactly how it seemed at the start?

  14. Contracts and Groups When has your group had an agreement? What kind of things would your group need a contract for?

  15. Clauses to consider Auto-renew? When does the contract end. If it seems to good to be true- it probably is. Have you read and understood the whole document? If you’re not sure, check with the provider and get it in writing. Check your handover for previous liabilities Think carefully about what you can deliver. Does this conflict with other commitments? Keep copies and think about what happens after you leave.

  16. Example contract

  17. Things to consider What period does it cover? Is it specific? Is it clear what it means? Can the society provide what they are agreeing? Is it clear what the society get in return? Are the details correct? Is there anything here that could result in the society not being paid?

  18. Top 5 tips Check your contract carefully and get clarifications in writing. Talk to your Dev Co and get support about your plans. Keep copies and make good records. Include contracts in your handover, even if it has ended. If you’re unsure- seek advice.

  19. Any questions? If you want to talk to the advice centre about any personal issues with contracts you can contact us on: advice@luu.leeds.ac.uk 0113 380 1290
