  1. The LEARNER CHARACTERISTICS and what they mean to YOU! • The learner characteristics are about how students learn and work together to succeed and thrive in the 21st Century. They focus on skills and habits that create successful 21st Century learners. • Every week, your child will bring home a new learner characteristics that we have discussed in class. This learner characteristic will be our goal for the week and we will focus on really understanding what this learner characteristic looks like, sounds like, and feels like. AT HOME, please… • Read the learner characteristic page together with your child and discuss the characteristic. Discuss what this learner characteristic looks like, sounds like, and feels like. Discuss why this learner characteristic is important to being successful as a learner. Share examples of how you live this learner characteristic in your life. • There are explanations and examples of the learner characteristic on each page. Discuss what would help them to follow the behaviors or skills represented. Help your child write a sentence and draw a picture of what this learner characteristic looks like and write about what it sounds like. For example: I show I am respectful when I am poised for patience and don’t interrupt others when talking. • Return the page to class by Friday. Please try to return this page as neat and wrinkle free as possible. We would like to create a class book with these pages.

I’m happy to have friends and classmates who are different from me. I am polite, poised for patience, consciously courteous, and nicer than necessary. I treat things gently and leave things better than I found it.

If I don’t succeed, I try…try…again. I don’t get discouraged, I look at challenges and mistakes as opportunities for learning. I learn from mistakes, and keep on trying.

I stop and think about how my behavior and what I say will affect myself and others. I learn from my experiences and mistakes. I think deeply about things and know there is often more than one way to solve a problem.
