  2. Because…… • Denotation and connotation are common terms that are used to describe different types of meanings in literature. • MEANINGS= Meaning what is actually stated?/ What is being implied? • It is important. <HAHA>

  3. Denotation • the literal or primary meaning of a word, in contrast to the feelings or ideas that the word suggests. • the exact meaning of the words or phrase. • the pink unicorn= is actually referring to a pink unicorn.

  4. Connotation an idea or feeling that a word invokes in addition to its literal or primary meaning. something that is not stated or something that is not supposed to be exactly interpreted the way it is written. Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day- (Sonnet 18, William Shakespeare) = You are BEAUTIFUL!!!
