ABOUT ME! • Graduated from Cal State Fullerton with a BA in Liberal Studies and a Multiple Subject Credential • In the process of earning my MS in Education specializing in Elementary Reading and Literacy from Walden University • Hobbies: • Going to concerts and musicals • Spending time with my family • Scrapbooking

  3. 4th GRADE STANDARDS • Language Arts: organizational patterns of text, Greek and Latin root words, understanding and utilizing various reference resources. • Writing: personal narrative, summary, report writing, and response to literature. • Social Studies: California History • Science: rock cycle, geological changes, electricity, ecosystems, and the food web • Math: multi-digit multiplication, long division, understanding fractions and decimals

  5. CONSEQUENCES • 1st Infraction: Verbal warning • 2nd Infraction: Making Better Choices Slip • This is to be completed, signed, and returned the following school day. • 3rd Infraction: Parent contacted • 4th Infraction: Office referral

HOW IS BEHAVIOR CALCULATED? • At the start of each trimester, students start with 100% in behavior. • Each warning lowers the student’s behavior grade by 2%. • A Making Better Choices slip lowers the behavior grade by 3%. • A phone call home (for behavior purposes) will lower behavior grade by 5%. • An office referral automatically lowers behavior grade to 60% • To earn an A in behavior, students must stay above 90%.

  8. HOMEWORK • Homework folder, binder, and agenda • Homework due at start of the day • 60-90 minutes of homework • 15-20 minutes of reading

  10. GRADING POLICY • A Advanced 90-100% • B Proficient 80-89% • C Basic 70-79% • D Below Basic 60-69% • F Far Below Basic 0-59%

  13. OPA World Language Objective: Students will Acquire Fluency In at Least One Foreign Language

  14. 2013 World Language ModelIncreasing Fluency One Year at a Time To achieve this objective, instruction time must increase, effective teachers must be employed, as well as continuation of target language. MANDARIN REQUIRES 3X INSTRUCTION TIME AS WESTERN LANGUAGES Introduce Mandarin to young learners – gradually increase instructionGive option in 5th grade to continue or focus on Western Language of Choice TK-4 MANDARIN INSTRUCTION: (3 TIMES/WK X 30 MIN) 5-7* MANDARIN OR WESTERN INSTRUCTION (3 TIMES/WK X 45 MIN) 2013 - 8TH FRENCH INSTRUCTION 2014 - 5-8* WILL MAKE LANGUAGE CHOICE

  15. CELEBRATIONS • Four classroom parties • Pre-approve all foods • Birthdays • We love birthdays but no birthday treats/goodies • Birthday Book Donation

SPECIAL EVENTS • Participating families purchase profits are recorded in a family “account” for use for reimbursement when you wish to apply the funds as gift cards through www.shopwithscrip.com to student travel. • Different gift cards give different percentages back to your student’s travel account • Sacramento Trip • More information to come • SCRIP for Trips

JIJI/MIND INSTITUTE • JiJi is now available on iPad! • 45 minutes of JiJi at home for homework each week (usually assigned on Wednesday). • Please make sure that this is completed and encourage your student to go above and beyond each week! • Our goal is to reach 100% completion! • Visit Honour Hall for a presentation from the Mind Institute.

  19. Reading Comprehension Tips Encourage your child to read non-expository text. Ask questions about what your child is reading i.e. compare/contrast, identify the main idea
