  4. 英文裡的數，「基數」與「序數」 • 基數就是one、two、three...。 • 序數就是指「排順序」的數，例如第一first、第二second、第三third...。 • 序數的規則分為兩類： • 不規則的基數與序數變化，如第一first (1st )，第二second (2nd )，和第三third (3rd )。 • 規則的基數與序數變化。從第四開始，在基數字尾加入th，如fourth (4th )。 但仍有一些變化需注意，介紹如下。 • 直接加入ｔｈ，如 sixth (6th), eleventh (11th), seventeenth (17th). • 字尾是ｖｅ，必須現將ve改成f，再加上th，如fifth (5th) 以及twelfth (12th)。 • 字尾是ｔ，直接加上h，如eighth (8th)。 • 字尾是ｅ，必須把e去掉，再加上th，如ninth (9th)。 • 字尾是ｔｙ，必須去y，再加上ieth，如thirtieth (30th) 以及twentieth (20th)。 • 兩位數的整數，只需改變個位數成為序數，中間記得加連字號（-），如twenty-one→twenty-first (21st)；forty-three →forty-third (43rd)；fifty-five→fifty-fifth (55th)。

  5. 序數的用法： • 序數之前一定要加上定冠詞the，或是所有格。 • Summer is the second season of the year.  • Saturday is the last day of the week. (last同時擁有最高級以及序數的特性。) • 序數若與基數同時出現修飾名詞。序數在前，基數在後。 • The first five fans can get the singer’s latest album. • 序數若當副詞時，定冠詞the以及所有格省略。 • Who finished the homework first last night? • 常使用序數的時機： • 「樓層」： The Lin family live on the second floor. • 「日期」：My birthday is on July 31st . (寫法可只用基數，如My birthday is on July 31. 但是唸時，一定要讀成序數。) • 「幾週年」：Tomorrow is my father’s sixtieth birthday. • 「分數」---分子用基數，分母用序數。（分子若超過一，分母序數後要加上s）：1/3 → one third;  3/5 → three fifths
