Symptoms and signs
  • Scarlet fever starts off looking like a bad sun burn with tiny bumps and it may itch.
  • Usually appears first on neck and face.
  • Then it spreads to the chest and back, then to the rest of the body.
  • In body creases, especially around under arms, elbows, the rash forms red streaks.
  • Areas turn white when you press on them.

  • No name other name for disease, just called Scarlet fever.
causes
Causes
  • Scarlet fever is caused by an infection with a group A streptococcus bacteria.
  • The bacteria is a toxic poison that can cause the scarlet colored rash from which this illness gets its name.

  • The bacterial infection that causes scarlet fever is contagious.
  • A child who has scarlet fever can spread the bacteria to others through nasal and throat fluids by sneezing and coughing.
  • Also can spread by contact with skin.

  • There is no perfect way to avoid the infections that cause scarlet fever.
  • When a child is sick keep drinking glasses and eating utensils separate from other family members.
  • Always wash hands
treatment
Treatment
  • A doctor will prescribe an antibiotic for child to be taken for about 10 days.
  • Keep away from other children.
  • Eat soft foods and worm nutritious soups.

Incubation period
  • Fever stops within 3 to 5 days, then sore throat occurs afterwards.
  • Scarlet rash usually fades on the 6th day after sore throat symptoms began.
  • The peeling may last 10 days.
  • With antibiotic treatment the infection itself is usually cured with 10 day course.
  • May take few weeks for tonsils and swollen glands to return to normal.
