Traveling Seeds Focusing on Seeds
Why do seeds need to travel? • Seeds need to travel in order to survive. (Adaptation) • Seeds cannot travel on their own. They need help from other things in the environment.
Seeds can travel by sticking. • Some seeds have small hooks on them that allow them to attach to animal fur or clothes. When the seeds come off they fall to the ground.
Seeds can travel by flying. • When the wind blows, seeds come off the plant and fly in the wind. When the wind stops, the seeds fall to the ground.
Seeds travel by popping. • Some seeds pop out of their pods and fall to the ground.
Seeds travel by being carried and buried. • Some animals, like birds and squirrels, pick up seeds and carry them or bury them in different places.
In your Traveling Seed picture book, illustrate each way that seeds travel.
