Follow our three-year journey with the SAM Project in Iowa. Starting from Fall 2006 in Louisville, KY, to expanding to 45 teams across Iowa by Fall 2009. Learn about the configuration of our teams in high schools, intermediate/MS, elementary, and Central Office/Supt. SAM Project in Iowa Our Three Year Journey
It all began…… • Fall 2006- visit to Louisville, KY (site of initial pilot project that began in 2002) • January 2007– pilot schools have baseline data collected (Oak Ridge Elem., Oak Ridge MS, Bowman Woods Elem/Linn Grove.- LM) • March 2007– LM hires two SAMS for three sites • Summer 2007- Trained data collectors in Iowa • Fall 2007– four new districts are added--CCA (3), W.DM (1), Spencer (2), Storm Lake (2) • Winter and Spring 2008– Saydel, addtl. LM, CB (7)
And then….. • Fall 2008– Hartley/Melvin/Sanborn, Waterloo (2), Clear Lake MS (currently inactive), CCA (1), WDM (1) • Fall 2009– LM (2), Storm Lake (2), Ft. Dodge MS, Council Bluffs (6), Anamosa- St. Hill, Sioux City (1), Sigourney El., Albia HS, West Sioux Elem., Cedar Falls HS, Davenport (2) • WE NOW ARE AT 45 TEAMS IN IOWA!

The Future & Sustainability • Current Wallace funding until- August 2010 • Rationale to be presented to DE regarding use of “at risk” money to fund SAMS in the future • Stimulus money through 2011 • Multi-state grant Application: 3i- USDE (Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, Delaware, Kentucky, Atlanta-GA, Victorville-CA)-- $30+million grant to sustain and expand the SAM project • Commitment to support existing teams– continue to pursue ongoing financial support
In addition….. • Cost-savings • Reduced data collection (after 2nd successful annual shadowing) • Co-coaching (Linn Mar pilot this year) • Closer cohesion/connection with district initiatives and internal supports available • State-supported services model with SAI
