  1. Using the Library’s Online Catalog Find the books you want!

  2. Ways to Search • Author’s Name • Book Titles • Subject • Series • Keywords (Any Word)

  3. Author Search • Type in the author’s last name. • If there are other authors with the same last name, you will need to select the one you want. • Spelling counts!

  4. Title Search • If you know an exact book title, you can search by title. • A, An and The at the beginning of the title can be omitted (left out). • If your title does not match the ones in the catalog, you will not get matches even if the library has the book.

  5. Series Search • To find out how many of your favorite “series books” your library has, search by the series title. • If you don’t have the series title correct, you may not get all the results.

  6. Subject Search • Enter the topic you are looking for. • Think of other words that might be used for your subject and search by those to get better results. • Not all books are easily searched by subject. • Find the general area on the shelf and browse the books to find what you want.

  7. Keyword Searches(Any Word) • Keyword searches work well when you aren’t sure about the exact title or subject words you need. • The more you limit the search, the better your results. • Very general searches give BIG results and make it hard to find what you need.

  8. Boolean Searches • When you choose the tab for Boolean Search, you can do searches using “and”, “or” or “not” to narrow down your search results. • Boolean searches help you find things that are closer to what you need.
