  1. Studies on IDS FFAGs for muon acceleration J. Pasternak Imperial College, London / RAL STFC J. Pasternak

  2. Introduction. • IDS FFAGs design. • Beam dynamics in FODO. • Extraction from FODO. • Summary and future plans. J. Pasternak

  3. Introduction • Motivations for Non Scaling FFAGs as muon accelerators: • quasi-isochronous –enables high frequency RF • linear fields – gives huge DA and allows for simple magnets • small orbit excursion – cost effective • Main problems: • TOF with amplitude • beam loading • injection/extraction J. Pasternak

  4. IDS designs by J. Scott Berg J. Pasternak

  14. Extraction – second scheme with 4 T septum J. Pasternak

  15. Summary and future plans • Beam dynamics in Scott’s FODO has been studied • with good results. • Extraction looks not impossible! • Other lattices have to be studied • Crosscheck with other codes is needed. • Acceleration simulations have to be performed. • More detailed study of injection/extraction • – work in progress.
