  1. OPTIMUS A development board by Electronics Club Rahul Prajapati Manager The  Electronics Club 2012-13 IIT Bombay

  2. A First look at Optimus

  3. Motivation In our institute every year, as a part of the freshmen line follower competition, Arduinos are purchased (~200), and most of the people continue to use the same for projects later, with the Arduino boards ill-suited for advanced technical projects.  Lack of feelings of our own development board. Cost : Similar (shown) board cost 3500/-, ours costs only 900/-

  4. Features

  5. Technical details IC's used :ATMEGA32U4 - Atmel based TB6612FNG - Toshiba's motor driver IC PCF8575 - TI based 16 bit I2C I/O expander Ft232 - FTDI chip LD29150DT50R - 5V voltage regulator TLV2217-33 - 3.3V voltage regulator (This also can be used - LD29150DT33R)

  6. Launch And Availability : • Launch – These boards have been launched in our institute and will be used in summer during summer project by freshmen. Hence these current first year students will be able to mentor next freshmen batch during line follower. • Availability – Ordered fabrication of total 100 boards from PC process, Bangalore. Component order have been given to DigiKey. They will be ready by mid April. The interested students could avail of the boards by paying the required amount to STAB (Student Technical Activity Body) Cost INR 900/- • Contact person : Rahul Prajapati (rahul.prajapat9@gmail.com, 9892945399)

  7. Planning – Planning was the most crucial part in development of this board, did some ground work from many good seniors as well EE profs, discussed need of institute’s own development board. So planned to come up with launching different micro-controller platforms. The following things we planned this year – 1. Atmel Atmega32u4 based development board “Optimus” and in next year launching of 2. PIC 18F4550 based developement boards “Megatron” • Testing – Successful testing has been done by coordinators and seniors mentors of club • User manual and documentation – Complete documentation have been done of this board by our club

  8. Future Planning : • Complete documentation is being done on Wiki page of Electronics Club’s site Stab-iitb.org/wiki/electronics/optimus • We are also developing code repositories on github • User manual of the "Optimus" :  http://stab-iitb.org/electronics/optimus.pdf • How to code : http://stab-iitb.org/electronics/how_to_code_optimus.pdf • Datasheet of Atmega32u4 :  http://stab-iitb.org/electronics/atmega32u4.pdf
