Regulation Overview • Student Employment relies on its supervisors to comply with all federal, state, and institutional policies. • The Student Employment Office serves as a resource to remain compliant. • Contact the Student Employment Coordinator with any questions you may have at nhuth@stetson.edu.

  4. Wage and Yearly Allocation • The standard wage for the 2019-2020 school year is $8.50/hr. • A higher wage can be considered with additional documentation to the Student Employment Coordinator. • The standard student yearly allocation for the 2019-2020 school year is $3000. In some situations, this allocation can be increased. Students and Supervisors should contact the Student Employment Coordinator if they wish for an increase to be considered.

  5. Hourly Limitations • Students typically work about 10 hours per week. In special cases, student employees are allowed to work up to a maximum of 20 hours per week at all jobs combined during the academic year. A student’s work schedule will be determined by the student and their supervisor(s). • During periods where classes are not in session, student employees may work up to 29 hours per week.

  6. Workers’ Compensation • Should a work-related injury occur, student employees are covered under the University's workers' compensation insurance. • If an employee is injured while performing their required work duties, students should immediately contact their supervisor (after 911, if necessary). • Supervisor will need to complete the Student Employee Accident Form found on the Risk Management website. • Any questions should be referred to Elise Paulson, Director of Risk Management at epaulson@Stetson.edu or 386-822-7701.

  7. Terminations • Student employees may be terminated at any time for reasons including, but not limited to: • A violation of the Stetson University Code of Community Standards • Failure to satisfy the requirements of the job as defined by the supervisor. • Failure to fulfill the responsibilities and safety requirements for student employees as agreed to prior to employment. Terminations can be completed through the new Off-boarding Webform

  8. Posting Positions • All students searching for student employment positions are directed to HatterJobs. • To have your position posted please email studentemployment@stetson.edu. • Students can search for positions by using the keyword “studentsatwork”.

Onboarding – Gender Inclusivity • Stetson has a dedication to promoting inclusive excellence. • Traditionally and typically, professional dress is taught in a way that separates out what is considered appropriate male and female dress. Students may feel limited by these binary explanations/perspectives. • Inclusive professional dress conversations will allow for more students to be engaged in the professional development process in addition to being in line with inclusive practices.

Examples of Gender Inclusive Dress Business Professional Business Casual Top and bottom do not necessarily need to match and more color is acceptable Shirts/skirts still need to be pressed/tailored and have a conservative neckline/length Tie/bowtie not necessary, more color and design is acceptable Open-toed shoes acceptable depending on employer/industry More freedom with jewelry but still wear jewelry, perfume/cologne and makeup in moderation Make sure body piercing and tattoo coverage aligns with company culture/standards • Matching, two-piece dark colored suit (black, blue, grey) • Tailored shirt/skirt with conservative neckline/length • Conservative tie or bowtie (no “flashy” designs) • Polished dress shoes that match belt color • No sneakers or open-toed shoes • Dark or neutral socks or pantyhose • Minimal jewelry, perfume/cologne and makeup • Make sure body piercing and tattoo coverage aligns with company culture/standards

  13. Title IX Training • All returning student employees must take this training in September. • Training is yearly. All student employees must do the new program each year. • Students must complete the program “on the job” and need to be paid for that hour. • It is required of all employees, including students, to complete the training within first 30 days of hire, or every September for returning student employees. • More information will be distributed. • Supervisors are expected to support students in completing this training. • Students will be terminated for willful non-compliance

  14. Mandatory Student Orientation Who: • All new students to Student Employment. (All students who needed to complete I-9 and W-4 upon hire) How: • Online via Blackboard. Student Employment will communicate directly with students When: • Monthly according to hire date Topics covered: • Value of student employment experience • Understanding allocation and policies • Time sheets • Professionalism in the workplace

Student Blackboard Training • Students will have the opportunity to complete online tutorials and videos aimed to increase their knowledge of professionalism in the workplace and how to excel as an employee • This is a great opportunity for students to complete when there is any “downtime” on the job • Ongoing communication will be sent out to students and supervisors about this opportunity

Evaluations • Mandatory mid-year reflection: typically 10-15 minutes • Opportunity to set goals • Opportunity to reset or reframe expectations • Mandatory end-of-year evaluation: typically 20-30 minutes • Review growth • What went well • What would be good future goals More information to come in early November and late February.

  18. Supervisor Development Sessions We run training for Supervisors throughout the year. Keep your eyes peeled for e-mails with various training opportunities!

  19. Employee of the Month • Selection of employee will be based on how the student’s work is exemplary of the competency of the month. Supervisors are e-mailed monthly to nominate their amazing students!

Hiring Students • Go to your MyStetson Resources Tab • Select Electronic Personnel Action Form (EPAF) • Set query date as anticipated employee start date • Follow video instructions you have received from Student Employment Once students have accepted their position and completed their I-9 and W-4 forms, it takes approximately a week for the Supervisor and Student to receive an e-mail stating they can begin work.
