  3. What is an element? A substance made of 1 type of atom

  4. What is a compound? Atoms of two or more different elements chemically joined.

  5. What is a mixture? More than one type of substance present but not joined.

  6. How can you separate mixtures? Filtration Evaporation

  7. How would we describe a substance which dissolves in water? Soluble

  8. What are the 3 states of matter? Solid Liquid Gas

  9. What is the melting point? The temperature at which a substance changes from a solid to a liquid

  10. What is the boiling point? The temperature at which a substance changes from a liquid to a gas

  11. Where are all the known elements listed? The Periodic Table.

  12. What are the 2 main categories for elements? Metals Non-metals

  13. Which substances conduct electricity? All metals Carbon (in the form of graphite)

  14. Which elements are present in sodium chloride? Sodium Chlorine

  15. What is the formula of sodium chloride? NaCl

  16. What is the formula of sulphur dioxide? SO2
