  1. “Blessed are the Pure in Heart For They Shall See God” “Blessed are the Pure in Heart For They Shall See God” Matthew 5:8

  2. Blessed are the Pure in Heart, For They Shall See God. • What does it mean to “See God?” • Why is the heart so important? • I’ve sinned; so, how do I purify my heart? • Once Pure, the Purity must be maintained. • Do I have a pure heart?

  3. Blessed are the Pure in Heart, For They Shall See God. • Not Visibly: • “No one has seen God at any time…” (John 1:18) • “…the King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone has immortality, dwelling in unapproachable light, whom no man has seen or can see…” (1 Timothy 6:15-16) • Not At Judgment - All Will See At That Time: • “…For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ. For it is written: ‘As I live, says the LORD, Every knee shall bow to Me, And every tongue shall confess to God.’ So then each of us shall give account of himself to God.” (Romans 14:10-12)

  4. Blessed are the Pure in Heart, For They Shall See God. Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." Nicodemus said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?” Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.” (John 3:3-5).

  5. Blessed are the Pure in Heart, For They Shall See God. He that believeth on the Son hath eternal life; but he that obeyeth not the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abideth on him. (John 3:36 ASV).

  6. Blessed are the Pure in Heart, For They Shall See God. • Pure: • Free from evil desires & purposes; clean, unadulterated. • Freedom from defilements & divided affections. • Sincerity; genuineness; no hypocrisy; no deceit. • Examples: • “Who committed no sin, Nor was deceit found in His mouth.” (1 Peter 2:22) • “Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward Him, and said of him, ‘Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom is no deceit!’” (John 1:47)

  7. Blessed are the Pure in Heart, For They Shall See God. • But the LORD said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at the height of his stature, because I have refused him. For the LORD does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.” (1 Samuel 16:7) • “Behold, You desire truth in the inward parts, And in the hidden part You will make me to know wisdom.” (Psa. 51:6) • “Who may ascend into the hill of the LORD? Or who may stand in His holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart, Who has not lifted up his soul to an idol, Nor sworn deceitfully.” (Psa. 24:3-4)

  8. Blessed are the Pure in Heart, For They Shall See God. • Purity in Words & Outward Behavior Not Enough: • “For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies.” (Matthew 15:19) • “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.” (James 4:8) Why? • “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (Matthew 6:21) • “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.” (Matthew 6:24)
