  2. In a nut shell… Wikipedia says… “Graphic design is a creative process—most often involving a client and a designer and usually completed in conjunction with printers/developers undertaken in order to convey a specific message to a targeted audience. The field as a whole is also often referred to as Visual Communicationor Communication Design.”

  4. Brand Identity Branding is the entire essence, voice and visual representation of a company. Brand Identity is the LOGO (and sometimes tag line) of a company. It’s often the first impression a company can make and a way for customers to identify who they are in the crowd. ………………………………. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/02/19/logos-past-future-corporate_n_1285622.html

  11. The Basics… Colleges want to see you experiment with the following: • Typography • Photography • Design principals • Brand Identity • Layout (Golden Mean) • Colour Theory • Mixed Mediums • Fine Art (drawings, paintings) • Understanding of Marketing http://www.jessicahische.is/lettering/astamp

  12. The Deadly Sins 1. Plagiarism According to the Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary, to "plagiarize" means: • to steal and pass off (the ideas or words of another) as one's own • to use (another's production) without crediting the source • to commit literary theft • to present as new and original an idea or product derived from an existing source. In other words, plagiarism is an act of fraud. It involves both stealing someone else's work and lying about it afterward. • Spelling Mistakes • grammar mistakes, places, language discrepancies or people • Designing without a purpose • Why are you creating the visual you have? Every design you create should communicate something of value • Put yourself in the viewer’s shoes…does your design make sense to you now? • Ask for another’s perception of your work

  13. What it’s really like • Fast paced – deadline oriented • Technical minded – work with printers and developers • Ability to be creative within parameters set by your client • Unlike fine art, graphic design is creating art for a purpose of selling a company, product, service or event • Confidence without arrogance – believe in your abilities! • Forever changing and shifting – there is always something to learn, no matter how experienced you are

  14. That about sums it up.
