GRAPHIC DESIGN CH. 10: Living With Art Intro Video
What is the goal of Graphic Design? • Attempts to limit interpretation and to control the meaning of the image and/ or text as much as possible • Communicate a message to the viewer through various approaches: • Signs and Symbols • Typography and Layout • Word and Image • Motion and Interactivity
Signs and Symbols • Basic shapes used to convey information or embody ideas • Define - through imagery - an organization or product
Typography and Layout Arrangement and appearance of the letters- including fonts, sizes and colors used Albrecht Durer (1525) - paid attention to the thick and thin lines that made up the visual weight of each letter
Word and Image Integrating words creatively throughout the logo design- to a point where one cannot remain without the other
Motion and Interactivity • When words and images work together in film titles, tv program titles, and advertisements. • Interactive settings can be used on websites- for example Graffiti Archaeology by Cassidy Curtis: Cassidy Curtis Artwork Website:
