Live@edu email to Office 365 • Live@EDU email system will be upgraded to Office 365 on Friday, August 9th- 4:30 p.m. • Customers will continue have access to their email while the upgrade proceeds • During the upgrade process, access to email is through Outlook client or the portal by clicking on the email icon. The former direct url to outlook.com will no longer work • Users will now have 25GB of email storage
OIT Reporting Problems • Log support calls under Faculty member’s name, not anyone else’s name • Ask faculty to report issues immediately • OIT has ability to remotely support up to 50 classrooms across campus • Will still send TSC/OIT support, as needed • DVD/VCR's are not being reinstalled in upgraded rooms - There are none in LSC and BRN • Reach out to the Library to digitize media • Log onto the PC with your R Number
Hardware/Software Requests • All hardware requests for next year, both new and replacement, must be submitted on microcomputer budget forms, by the end of 2013 • Computer equipment for new hires must be submitted by year’s end, for 2014
Hardware/Software Requests • All software and peripheral requests must be submitted through a FootPrints ticket • Call the Technology Support Center for assistance in submitting requests • Once software request is submitted, a check is made to see if a site license exists or if a new license must be secured • All other equipment requests must be processed through FootPrints
FootPrints • FootPrints will replace Project Tracking in a few weeks • Requests for services will be through the Service Catalog in FootPrints Examples: • Banner ID and Userclass changes: Service Catalog Database Systems & Processing Access & Security • For Student Reports: Service Catalog Database Systems & Processing Student Reports & Processing
AD on Desktops • Beginning Fall 2013 - All Staff/Faculty Desktops will be converted to R# logins • Faculty Laptops will be converted at a later date to be announced • Schedule for conversion by department will be announced • New and rebuilt computer systems as of 4/29/13 have already been converted
Windows XP End of Life 4/8/2014 • No Microsoft security updates will be delivered after that date • Without security updates vulnerability to malware will increase • Upgrades to Windows 7 University-owned computers now in progress • Viewfinity is delivered with Windows 7 to allow installation of approved software
ForeFront • New version of ForeFront coming • ForeFront is the industry-leading Virus/Malware detection program • Update to the anti-virus software on Windows desktops is passive • Improved malware detection and remediation
Lab Updates • All labs are being updated with the latest software and hardware as nec. • 8 labs are being converted to VDI for Fall 2013 • All labs both VDI or PCs will require R# logins LABS • MGH 110 • JOH 406 • MGH 136 • OHA 426 • LOY 221 • MGH 438 • TOC 205
LMS-Angel to Desire2Learn • will be available for the Spring 2014 semester • in-depth evaluation process by CTLE, ITDA and the Learning Management System Evaluation Working Group • The group rated Desire2Learn higher than both Blackboard Learn and Canvas • ANGEL will be available until June 1, 2014 • Spring 2014 semester, ANGEL and Desire2Learn will run in parallel • Banner-to-D2L connection will mimic that which is currently set up for Banner-to-ANGEL
Training – Classroom • IT Training Website: www.scranton.edu/it_training • Classes available in many subjects used on campus, (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, CMS) • Sessions are one-hour in length, some subjects require more than one session • All classes are customized to those attending • Only material needed for a user’s work requirements will be covered
Training – BANNER • Developing Banner training at present • Basic Banner Navigation will include identification of various elements of the program and how they are used • Individual modules, (student, finance, etc.) will offer a more in-depth look at Banner • Specific Banner tutorials will be available on IT Training and Banner Support websites
CMS – web editing • CMS currently being updated to new Responsive website format • Page information in CMS will be transformed to adapt to mobile devices, (tablets, phones, etc.) automatically • Main (banner), Photo will be resized to 1280 pixels wide X 361 pixels deep • All Banner Photos must be replaced Aug. 5-7. No publishing until August 14th
SANS SecurityAwareness • Theme of training videos relates to the user as the main target of malicious actors • Important security information for all staff/faculty members • Short videos, average about 3 min. each • Can be viewed anytime, not necessarily, all at once • Go to: www.scranton.edu/it_training, select the SANS Security link
Identity Finder Scans • Identity Finder is a security program that scans for PII on University computers • Program runs in the background with no user interaction • If PII is found, user will be notified and corrective measures will be taken to secure or remove the data
RoyalCard • New larger portrait style photo • Features Expiration Date • Valid for use as Voter ID • Expiration date based on expected graduation date • Available at the Technology Support Center • For students, $10 lost card and $5 replacement fees • No fee for faculty and staff replacement cards and will expire four years from issue date • New policy to require new photograph when issuing replacement cards
