  1. Prolegomena Lesson 16 CHAPTER 11: MODIFICATION IN THE CREATION _BADAA False accusations Knowledge of God Conclusion Types of God's decree Conclusion Reflection of BADAA

  2. Modification in the Creation -BADAA • False accusations:- • Many ignorant accused the Shia followers of 12 Imams (AS) that they ascribe the ignorance to God, he did not know the consequences of the decision. He made, so when he realized he changed his decision, and this is how they understood the concept of BADAA.

  3. Knowledge of God:- • Shias believe that the God is All Knowledge, his self his all knowledge, he knows everything, he knows the past and the future, he knows the consequences of everything. His revealed knowledge is of two types:- • Unrevealed, such knowledge unchanged it is fixed and subtle • Revealed, such knowledge is revealed to his servants, either to test them or teach them something or any other purpose. This type of Revealed knowledge is changeable, that means that he may reveal something then change the Revelation

  4. Examples of BADAA • Issue of Abrogation of Rules from Adam (AS) to Muhammad (AS), based on the level of education in the humanic societies • the story of Ibrahim (AS) slaughtering Ismael (AS) • the punishment of the people of Prophet Younus (AS) • The charge of Qibla direction in the mosque of the Prophet (AS) • Livelihood, death, decrees written in the night of Qadr • Duas, evil eyes, evil deeds, good deeds, SADQA charity, forgiveness and repentance

  5. Conclusion:- • Any existing thing exists in the knowledge of God prior to its existence, and such things existence is Restricted to the will of God, if he wills such thing to exist then it will come to the existence , if not then it will not, but that does not mean that God did not know about it. So knowledge of every thing is on one side, and its existence by will of God is something else. Things exist by the will of God due to the benefits of preventing corruption • -The Jews they claimed the knowledge of God about things and his will to bring such things into existence is fixed unchangeable, his will cannot be changed if he decides something then he cannot change it, on the other hand they mentioned that people, they can change their wills.

  6. Types of God's decree:- • Decree of unknown or hidden knowledge:- Allah did not reveal it to any one from his creation; BADAA does not occur in this type, but knowledge of BADAA is included in this type, that means that God knows about the change he is going to mate. • Known Decree of Allah, this type of knowledge has been revealed to the angels, Prophets (AS) and infallibles (AS) and in this type the decree is inevitable (HATMUN) • Changeable known Decree of Allah:- this type of decree is same like the previous but it is changeable based on the circumstances (13:39) (Both Arabic and English)

  7. Imam Al SADIQ (AS) explains that decrees change on the night of QADR, but everything which is changed is fixed in the unknown knowledge of God. In other narrations:- • Allah decrees or reveals the decrees on the night of Qadr for the whole year so the Angels can execute it. • Imam Ali (AS) knows everything which may happen in future until the Day of Judgment, but he assures that his knowledge is changeable and recites the verse mentioned. • Same narration has been narrated by other Infallible (AS)

  8. Conclusion:- The hidden knowledge which is described in Quran as "Looh Mahfooz" secured tabled, " UMM ILKITAB " Mother of books, stored knowledge, such knowledge is not changeable, does not accept BADAA. • Imam ALSADIQ (AS) orders his followers to denounce any ties with those who claim that BADAA could happen in the hidden fixed and unchanged knowledge of Allah. • BADAA occurs in the changeable knowledge or decree of God, which is called Tablet of fixing and erase. (MAHWO and Esthbatt)

  9. Reflection of BADAA:- • It reflects the God is all power, and is capable of everything; decree is changeable which creates the hope of better, and to work for achieving such hopes and Goals. If human knew that nothing is changeable the human would be lost completely. • It gives hope of repentance on sins, • It gives hope of better life with Duaa • It gives hope of more livelihood by efforts • It gives charity • It creates stronger communication and tie with God, which is why it was mentioned in the narration, best worship is the belief in BADAA.

  10. Shias and the meaning of BADAA:- • BADAA is derived from EBDAA or EZHAAR to reveal or uncover, something which was hidden. • Our Infallibles (AS) used to give two types of predictions, some were inevitable (HATMI) and some are changeable based on the circumstances. As same as the prediction of the punishment on people of Prophet Yunus (AS). • The coming of the 12th Imam (AJ) is inevitable.
