  6. Re-write the methods of contraception under the correct heading, for each classification. Contraception: Method? The Pill Implants The Morning After Pill Condom/Diaphragm/ Cap Rhythm method Withdrawal The Coil (or IUD) Surgical Sterilisation Spermicidal creams or jelly • Female vs. Male • Chemical vs. Physical • Natural vs. Artificial Respects the spouses’ bodies & encourages tenderness between them so builds up the marriage. Why does the Church support natural methods (rhythm, withdrawal)?

  7. Non-Catholics Catholics All contraception is OK to restrict the size of a family, and not to completely prevent having any children at all. Within marriage, it is OK to separate Unitive and Creative aspects of sex. Nothing in the Bible forbids contraception Contraception can protect women’s health and raises standards of living (keeps family sizes small) AIDS/ HIV means it is more important to use condoms to protect women, than to keep to church teaching. Teachings about Sex A gift from God • Unitive: source of joy and pleasure for married couples • Creative: a means of creating a family Responsible Parenthood means thinking about when to have children & how many children to have. Teaching about Contraception Natural contraception is part of God’s creation, so is OK. Artificial contraceptives • break the natural relationship between the pleasure of sex and creating a new life, so are wrong. • That cause early abortion (morning after pill) are against Sanctity of Life & therefore wrong. • Are a major source of promiscuity, broken families, rise in divorce and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).
