  1. Studies in John’s Gospel Chapter 12 “We wish to see Jesus…”

  2. And a vision appeared to Paul in the night: a man of Macedonia was standing there, urging him and saying, “Come over to Macedonia and help us.” (Acts 16:9 ESV)

  3. And the Lord said to Paul one night in a vision, “Do not be afraid, but go on speaking and do not be silent, for I am with you, and no one will attack you to harm you, for I have many in this city who are my people.” (Acts 18:9-10 ESV)

  4. Why Are We Surprised? • Because most today don’t? “Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few. (Matthew 7:13-14 ESV) Do you not say, ‘There are yet four months, then comes the harvest’? Look, I tell you, lift up your eyes, and see that the fields are white for harvest. (John 4:35 ESV)

  5. Why Are We Surprised? • Because most today don’t? • Because we’ve lost our faith? Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. (Hebrews 11:1 ESV)

  6. Why Are We Surprised? • Because most today don’t? • Because we’ve lost our faith? • Because they want to see Jesus in spite of us? FACT: Many still want to see Jesus

  7. They Want To See Him in Our Worship They have a right to see Him! God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.” (John 4:24 ESV)

  8. Want To See Him in Our Worship • The have a right to see teaching, admonishing, with wisdom, and thankfulness Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. (Colossians 3:16 ESV)

  9. Want To See Him in Our Worship • Want to see teaching, admonishing, with wisdom, and thankfulness • Want to see liberal, cheerful, purposed giving The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. (2 Corinthians 9:6-7 ESV)

  10. Want To See Him in Our Worship • Want to see teaching, admonishing, with wisdom, and thankfulness • Want to see liberal, cheerful, purposed giving • Want to see the throne of grace approached Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. (Hebrews 4:16 ESV)

  11. Want To See Him in Our Worship • Want to see teaching, admonishing, with wisdom, and thankfulness • Want to see liberal, cheerful, purposed giving • Want to see the throne of grace approached • Want to see discernment, self-examination, and proclamation For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes… Let a person examine himself, then, and so eat of the bread and drink of the cup. For anyone who eats and drinks without discerning the body eats and drinks judgment on himself. (1 Corinthians 11:26-29 ESV)

  12. Want To See Him in Our Worship • Want to see teaching, admonishing, with wisdom, and thankfulness • Want to see liberal, cheerful, purposed giving • Want to see the throne of grace approached • Want to see discernment, self-examination, and proclamation • Want to see diligence in handling word correctly Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth. (2 Timothy 2:15 ESV)

  13. The Want to See Him in His Followers They have a right to see Him Keep your conduct among the Gentiles honorable, so that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day of visitation. (1 Peter 2:12 ESV)

  16. The Want to See Him in His Followers …and so train the young women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled, pure, working at home, kind, and submissive to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be reviled. (Titus 2:4-5 ESV) • As fathers • As husbands • As mothers

  17. The Want to See Him in His Followers However, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband. (Ephesians 5:33 ESV) • As fathers • As husbands • As mothers • As wives

  19. The Want to See Him in His Followers …If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat. (2 Thessalonians 3:10 ESV) • As fathers • As husbands • As mothers • As wives • As children • In our work Let the thief no longer steal, but rather let him labor, doing honest work with his own hands, so that he may have something to share with anyone in need. (Ephesians 4:28 ESV) …for we aim at what is honorable not only in the Lord's sight but also in the sight of man.(2 Corinthians 8:21 ESV)

  20. The Want to See Him in His Followers …So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith. (Galatians 6:10 ESV) • As fathers • As husbands • As mothers • As wives • As children • In our work • In our deeds …who gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works. (Titus 2:14 ESV)

  21. Some Still Want to See Jesus In our worship, followers, mission, fellowship, etc. “Now is my soul troubled. And what shall I say? ‘Father, save me from this hour’? But for this purpose I have come to this hour. (John 12:27 ESV) And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself.” (John 12:32 ESV)

  22. They WILL see Jesus • In the cross He was lifted up on - if we teach it • In the cross we glorify - if we worship in spirit and in truth • In the cross each one bears - if our light is shining Will some have to approach us and ask to see Jesus?
