  2. THE FORT WAS BUILT BY BHATI RAJPUT RULER MAHARAWAL RAO JAISAL IN THE 1156 A.D. • AS A RESULT THE CITY HAS BEEN NAMED AS JAISALMER.

  3. Features of Jaisalmer fort • THIS IS THE ONLY FORT IN INDIA WHERE POPULATION RESIDES. • THE FORT SURROUNDED BY 99 DOMES AS SHOWN IN ABOVE PICTURE. • The fort has an igneous drainage system called as the “GHUT NAALI” which allows the easy drainage of water away from the fort in all the four directions of city. • Its massive yellow sandstone walls are a tawny lion color during the day, fading to honey-gold as the sun sets, thereby people describes it as Sonar Killa. • It has resident population of about 4,000 people who are largely from the Brahmin and Daroga communities . • The fort has 4 massive gateways which are : 1.Ganesh Prol 2.Suraj Prol- 3.Hawa Prol- 4.Akhe Prol-

Cultural Festival: Ganguar • It is the celebration of spring, harvest and marital fidelity. • The unmarried women worship her for being blessed good husband, while married women do so for the welfare, health and long life of their husbands and happy married life. • The Current King of Jaisalmer MAHAWRAWAL BRIJ RAJ SINGH himself participate in this festival along with people with a Gangaur Mata Idol Gangaur is the colourful and the one of the most important festivals of people of Rajasthan and is observed throughout the state with great fervour and devotion by womenfolk who worship Gauri, the consort of Lord Shiva during the month of March–April.

  5. GadisarLake:- • GadiSar is a rain water conservation lake built by MaharawalGadsi in 14th century. It was once the main source of drinking water for the entire town of Jaisalmer. • Now a tourist spot, there are many small temples and shrines around it. A wide variety of water birds can be seen here especially in winter.  • This is the most popular point to take photographs of Jaisalmer Fort early in the morning when the fort looks golden with the first rays of the Sun.

  6. Havelis:- • There are 3 havelis in Jaisalmer , • PatwonKihaveli, • Nathmalkihaveli, • Salam Singh ki Haveli.(Oldest of All) Word haveli originated in Persia which means an Enclosed Place.

Sam Sand Dunes:-Also Known as THAR DESERT • In the outskirts of Jaisalmer, 42 K.M. from the main town  • Its is Famous for Sand, sands and only sands. • There is no point coming to the Thar Desert if you don't go for the Desert Safari. That is why Sam sand dunes are becoming the major attraction in Jaisalmer. • The best way to get here, of course, is on camelback. • In the month of February/March, this whole place turns into a cultural hub. The desert festival organized amid these dunes is the showcase of Rajasthani culture as a whole. • Open-air cultural extravaganzas, puppet shows, folk dance performances, camel races, competitions and general festivities mark this annual event that is held with great pomp and show at the Sam Sand dunes in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. • It is also famous for its SUNSET POINT , sunset point cannot be looked as beautiful as it could from here.

TOURISTS FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD VISIT HERE. • PLACES YOU CAN’T MISS TO VISIT IN JAISALMER ARE : • GADISAR LAKE • FORT PALACE MUSEUM( PLACE WHERE YOU CAN GET WHOLE INFORMATION ABOUT JAISALMER) • LAKSMINATHJI TEMPLE (DOORS OF WHICH ARE MADE OF GOLD AND SILVER) • JAIN TEMPLES (CARVINGS OF WHOLE TEMPLE ARE DONE WITH A SINGLE STONE. • SAM SAN DUNES (FAMOUS FOR CAMEL SAFARI, SUNSET POINT ETC.) • FORT OF JAISALMER. • TANOT MATA TEMPLE , 120KM NORTH WEST OF JAISALMER CITY  ( TEMPLE WHICH HAS BEEN HIGHLIGHTED IN BOLLYWOOD FILM “BORDER”, LIVE BOMBS WHICH WERE THROWN BY THE PAKISTAN ARMY ARE STILL INTACT AND STORED IN A GLASS BOX WHICH IS WORTH WATCHING.)
