  1. Vincent van Gogh

  2. Vincent Willem van Gogh was a Dutch post-Impressionist painter whose work, notable for its rough beauty, emotional honesty, and bold color, had a far-reaching influence on 20th-century art. After years of painful anxiety and frequent bouts of mental illness, he died at the age of 37 from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. His work was then known to only a handful of people and appreciated by fewer still.

  3. Van Gogh loved art from an early age. He began to draw as a child, and he continued making drawings throughout the years leading to his decision to become an artist. He did not begin painting until his late twenties, completing many of his best-known works during his last two years. In just over a decade, he produced more than 2,000 artworks, consisting of around 900 paintings and 1,100 drawings and sketches. His work included self portraits, landscapes, still lifes of flowers, portraits and paintings of cypresses, wheat fields and sunflowers.

  5. Simple at first glance "Sunflowers" in no way is the traditional still-life. A simple vase and flowers, drawn thick strokes, seem to be convex, the game shades of yellow and brown reflects a painful. Amazing for the fledgling expression of the opinion of the surrounding world, transmitting the artistic genius of the beauty of simple things, in the full sense is characteristic of Van Gogh.

  6. One of the last works of Van Gogh, "Self-portrait with pipe and a bandage on his ear, was created them already at the point of mental illness, in the years of the life in Arles. During one of the attacks of rage, he threw himself on Gauguin, who was friends with, with a razor, and then in a fit of remorse the same razor cut off his ear, which sealed in an envelope and sent to one of the local brothel.

  7. He soon returned to normal life and once again began to draw; in his works of that time it is impossible to detect any trace of insanity. "Self-portrait with pipe and a bandage on his ear", created in February, 1889., can be called truly a masterpiece of objectivity. In this picture are obvious art the strength of his talent and clarity of mind. The gray-blue tone of the eyes, a look which is full of grief, is reinforced by an orange-red background. This self-portrait shows the highest level of skill and sincerity of the artist: he displays himself as he is, tired, confused man.
