  1. Photosynthesis

  2. Pc The Photosystems • Notice: • H+ ions on outside of cell • H2O on inside of cell NADP+ Reductase H+ H+ Fd PQ H2O Cytochrome Complex Photosystem II Photosystem I ATP Synthase

  3. Pc • Notice: • 1st: Photosystem II • 2nd: Cytochrome Complex • 3rd: Photosystem I • 4th: NADP+ Reductase • 5th: ATP Synthase NADP+ Reductase H+ H+ Fd PQ H2O Cytochrome Complex Photosystem II Photosystem I ATP Synthase

  4. Pc Notice: Electrons will be carried by • PQ molecule • Pc molecule • Fd molecule NADP+ Reductase H+ H+ Fd PQ H2O Cytochrome Complex Photosystem II Photosystem I ATP Synthase

  5. Pc Sunlight hits Photosystem II 1 H2O → ½ O2 + 2 H+ + 2e- NADP+ Reductase H+ H+ Fd PQ e- e- H+ H+ H2O ½ O2 Cytochrome Complex Photosystem II Photosystem I ATP Synthase

  6. Pc PQ becomes PQ+ PQ + 2 H+ + 2 e- → PQ* NADP+ Reductase H+ H+ Fd PQ+ PQ e- e- H+ H+ ½ O2 Cytochrome Complex Photosystem I ATP Synthase

  7. Pc Electrons Move to Cytochrome Complex • PQ* carries the electrons to Cytochrome complex NADP+ Reductase Fd PQ+ PQ H+ Cytochrome Complex H+ Photosystem I ATP Synthase ½ O2

  8. Pc Electrons Move to Cytochrome Complex • PQ* gives the cytochrome complex 2 e- • PQ* releases 2 H+ to the cell NADP+ Reductase Fd e- PQ e- H+ H+ Cytochrome Complex H+ Photosystem I ATP Synthase H+ ½ O2

  9. Pc The Cytochrome Complex passes the 2 electrons to Pc molecule NADP+ Reductase Fd e- e- H+ H+ H+ Photosystem I ATP Synthase H+

  10. Pc Sunlight hits Photosystem I • Pc takes the 2 e- to Photosystem I • Pc releases the 2 e- to Photosystem I when • sunlight hits it again NADP+ Reductase Fd e- e- H+ Photosystem I ATP Synthase H+ H+ H+

  11. Pc Sunlight hits Photosystem I • The 2 e- are used by NADP+ Reductase to • turn NADP+ and H+ into NADPH. NADP+ H+ NADP+ Reductase Fd e- e- H+ ATP Synthase H+ H+ H+

  12. Pc Sunlight hits Photosystem I • The 2 e- are used by NADP+ Reductase to • turn NADP+ and H+ into NADPH. NADP+ NADPH H+ Fd e- e- H+ ATP Synthase H+ H+ H+

  13. Pc ATP Synthase makes ATP • The H+ ions move out of the cell through ATP • Synthase. The process powers the bonding of • ADP to phosphate to make ATP. ADP PO43- Fd H+ ATP Synthase H+ H+ H+

  14. Pc ATP Synthase makes ATP • The H+ ions move out of the cell through ATP • Synthase. The process powers the bonding of • ADP to phosphate to make ATP. H+ ATP Fd H+ ATP Synthase H+ H+
