  2. Background • A modern newspaper kiosk that takes the simple notion of reading a newspaper into a higher and more interactive level. • This Kinect based application is user friendly. It provides a new experience that is controlled by the users’ gestures. • The gestures allow you to flip through pages, issues, “star” the current issue, get help, zoom in/out and scroll while zoomed.

  3. Technology Used • Kinect, the Xbox 360 controller is newly used for PC. It contains three sensors: Video, Depth and Audio. • Kinect SDK was released by Microsoft for PC use. • The combination between the Kinect Skeleton frame, the Depth frame, along with the SDK were the tools that facilitated the implementation of K-News presented as C# classes in Visual Studio.

  4. Features • K-News reads the body gestures of the user and translates it into software commands. These commands change the state of the display. • To implement each of the 10 gestures, the position of the detected joints were recorded at different time intervals.
