  1. Welcome to Year 6 Learning Together, Respecting Each Other Miss Smith, Mr Keys, Mrs Whitwam & Mrs Tearle

School information • Should not be on the playground before 8.40 • When the bell rings children should line up in register order for a prompt start in school by 8.50 • Children responsible for communicating messages to the teacher • Messages can also be recorded in the homework diaries • If parents need to speak to a teacher then they must make an appointment through the school office

  3. Expectations in Year 6 • Responsible for their own behaviour and learning… • Wider responsibilities within the school • Uniform...(named) • School uniform/shoes • PE kits and clubs kit separate • Equipment – that works and fits in a tray • own calculators needed

  4. Expectations in Year 6 • Literacy expectations • Writing – Handwriting – Spelling – Reading • Maths expectations • Multiplication facts – Websites – Presentation • Children are responsible for their learning and therefore must ensure that they spend time consolidating their learning.

Homework Expectations • Standards of presentation • Usually 30 minutes • Children are responsible for seeking guidance in advance of the hand in date • Homework to be completed at lunchtime if not handed in on time (signed note in homework diary) • Homework diaries will be signed in school on a Thursday so need to be signed at home by Wednesday night

  7. Homework • If research has been set as a homework then that research will not be marked. It will be incorporated into a larger piece of work which will then be marked by a member of staff.

  8. Reading • Each child should be reading daily • Each book read needs to be written in the reading record in the front of the homework diary. A comment should also be written weekly to show that the book has been read or discussed with a parent • If your child is not a free reader then they should still be reading to an adult at home on a regular basis • A range of texts should be read and a recommended list can be found on the school website

Any other information • CGP books should to be bought to support the children in their learning • SATS we can confirm will be going ahead this year – WC 12th May 2014 • Isle of Wight – WC 19th May 2014 • Places of interest • Imperial War Museum in London has various exhibition throughout the year • Churchill War Rooms • Britain at War Experience • Battle of Britain Museum - Hendon • Dover Castle – Battle of Britain look out
