  1. Warm Up: Get out your notebook. Label notes: Argument Notes

Notes pt.II: Arguments • Your argument has two sides: Supporting and Opposing. • For Supporting Side: 4 main arguments. • For Opposing Side: 3 main arguments. • Each argument should have at least 14 notes. Each argument should have it’s own notes sheet. • Each argument should have one double sided notes sheet completed.

  3. How many notes total? 98 notes • 7 arguments (4 supporting, 3 opposing) • 14 notes per argument. • 7 arguments x 14 notes per argument=98 notes • Argument notes should be on their own individual notes sheets. • QUESTIONS?

  4. What are your arguments? SUPPORTING SIDE (side you are on) -Argument 1: 14 notes -Argument 2: 14 notes -Argument 3: 14 notes -Argument 4: 14 notes OPPOSING SIDE -Argument 1: 14 Notes -Argument 2: 14 Notes -Argument 3: 14 Notes

  5. Example…..Topic/Controversy: Death Penalty Death Penalty is wrong. (SUPPORT/side you are on) -Argument 1: Societal Problems to blame (14 notes) -Argument 2: Religious Reasons (14 notes) -Argument 3: Legal Reasons/Evidence used (14 notes) -Argument 4: International Pressure (14 notes) Death Penalty is right. (OPPOSITION) -Argument 1: Victims Families (14 notes) -Argument 2: Deterrent Factor (14 notes) -Argument 3: Punishment (14 notes)

  6. Notes Format • Same format as background/history notes. • No more than 25% of notes should be direct quotes. (approximately 25 out of 98) • Direct quotes must have a sentence explanation. • Works Cited included. • Copies of articles/interview.

  7. Sources? How many…? 4 New Sources • You must have a minimum of 4 new sources. • You can use one of your “background” sources but it will not count towards your 4 sources. • First hand sources, your interview, must be one of your sources. • You must have at least 3 different types of sources for your paper: database, first hand, newspaper, magazine, web article, etc…..
