Summary of emerging trends • 2008 HEMIS active total 261 927 – above ministerial target of 258 000 • 2009 Provisional registrations 280 791 – approximately 4 000 below, a decline of 1,5% after sustained increases over the past few years • 2009 Course success rate 56,35% – above ministerial target of 56% • High level of attrition prior to, and in some cases, after exam writing: must be targeted in success and throughput framework • Wide variation in exam rates by race, gender, college and not significantly by S1 & Y tuition period
