  1. Zoology Kyle Hinze 5/2/13 Hour 1 Career Technology

  2. Introduction Zoology is the study of life. The main field of Zoology I’m focusing on is Marine Biology.(Ichthyologist) “It is, I find, in Zoology as it is in Botany: All nature is so full, that the district produces the greatest variety which is the most examined.” – Gilbert White | How I got interested in this career is when I was in 3rd grade the teacher made us get books for a project and I found this book on whales, and ever since I’ve read that book I’ve been in love with Zoology.

  3. Nature of Work • Develop and conduct experimental studies with animals in controlled or natural surroundings • Collect biological data and specimens for further analysis • Study the characteristics of animals, such as their interactions with other species, reproduction, diseases, and movement patterns • Analyze the influence that human activity has on wildlife and their natural habitats • Estimate wildlife populations

  4. Working Conditions • Zoologist work inside and outside • They use mental and physical work • Marine Biologist spend months at sea researching animal patterns. • Wildlife Biologist might spend most of their time in warm and cold climates in all types of weather. • Most Zoologists spend most of their time in remote locations studying exotic animals.

  5. Training, Qualification, Advancement • To become a Zoologist you must have a Bachelors degree • Most of the time Masters is needed for an advancement • A PhD is needed for independent work • Michigan State University is where I plan to go for college • Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Zoology and AP Zoology

  6. Job Outlook/Employment • Not that many people are Zoologists • Many people will be looking for more Zoologists. • The United States Fish and Wildlife Service is looking for more people. • Zoologist are retiring there will be many more job openings. • Jobs will be varied on the budget of the company that is going to hire you.

  7. Earnings • The Median pay of the Zoologist is almost $58,000 • I would usually get paid $27.61 an hour • I would work full time (11:00am – 7:00 pm) • Work Week Days

  8. Related Occupation Micro-Biology • Earn slightly more than Zoologists ($65,000) • Only requires a Bachelors degree • There are only 2700 people in this field • They both study living things • Both in the Science field

  9. Summary After 2 days of research I have decided that this career is just right for me. The reason why I want this job is because it’s been my dream job since I was 7 years old. When ever I’m learning about anything Biological, I always pay attention. Plus all you need is a Bachelors degree, but I might just get a Masters degree just in case. I also get paid above the median in come for most Americans. So all of this job research has made me want to become a Zoologist even more. Zoology is the field that I want to major in.
