  1. Veterinarian Ciara Herman 1-20-11 1st Hour Career/Technology Foundations

  2. Introduction “An animal's eyes have the power to speak a great language.” This quote by Martin Buber is a thing a vet sees on a day to day basis at an animal hospital. Whether its pain, love, excitement you always can tell. I started to love animals when I was just a little girl. They always cheered me up and I think working with them in the future would be beneficial. Animals are so forgiving and they never judge you. Well if they do I guess no one knows. I think a career with animals is a good thing for me to go into. In order to further research my career I need to find the responsibilities, working conditions, Training, Job outlook, and Earnings.

  3. Responsibilities • Check animals for transmissible diseases • Diagnose animals against diseases • Treat and dress wounds • Set fractures • Perform Surgery • Advice owners about feeding, behavior, and breeding

  4. Working Conditions • Both Mental and Physical; • Work in Veterinary Hospital or private practice; • indoor and outdoor depending on the type of vet you were; • LONG hours; • clean, well-lit environment

  5. Training, Qualifications, & Advancements • MUST graduate with a D.V.M • Animal experience • good with people and animals • Most start in a 1 year intership • Attend MSU

  6. Job Outlook • increase by 33% • Usually work in highly populated areas • Can thrive in rural areas because there is not a lot of competition • About 2,500 graduate each year • Work in Saint Clair Shores • Competitive

  7. Earnings • Average earnings-$61,370-$104,110 • Fits my goal • First Purchase- Silver Jeep Wrangler • Pass the North American Veterinary Licensing Exam

  8. Related Occupation • Animal Care and Services • Responsibilities of a Animal Trainer; • Teach animals according to voice pitch and movements • Mostly train Horses, Dogs, and Marine Animals like Dolphins

  9. Summery Over the time spent looking into this career I’m still not ABSOLUTELY sure this is what I want to go into. I have plenty of time to think about it though. This is one of my top choices for a career in the future and I would be a long journey with all the school necessary and only about 2,500 graduate a year and the competition is tough from all the people that have veterinary practice. I think this presentation will further prepare me for the future and show me some info about the job that I didn’t know before. I guess only time will tell what I’m going to do.
