  3. Example 1 It was a terrible sight. The force of the tornado had completely destroyed all major buildings in the downtown area. Uprooted trees blocked the streets. Pieces of glass were scattered everywhere. Tornadoes don't last very long. They are short-lived, though powerful. The results of the damaging storm could be seen for miles.
