  1. Renewable Resources Brooke Arends

  2. Hydrogen • How is it converted into a usable form? A hydrogen fuel cell can be used to turn it into direct electricity. • What’s it used for? Hydrogen is used for many things, such as; weapons, fuel for a car, and lime lights.

  3. The benefit: No greenhouse gases released, just water. Basically the cleanest of alternative fuels. • The downfall: Hydrogen is expensive, its hard to generate, handle, and store.

  4. Government plans? The Obama administration has proposed a cut in the budget to the clean running diesel fund and the fund for fuel cells in an effort to focus the majority of funding to electric ran vehicles. • Why isn’t it our number one energy source? This element is hard to control, its combustible and unstable.

  5. The impact on the environment: Hydrogen is a clean alternative, releasing only water, and therefore wouldn’t harm the environment at all..

  6. Solar • How is it converted into a useable form? There are two ways to convert solar energy into electricity. You can use either PV devices (solar cells) or concentrating solar power plants. • What’s it used for? Solar can be used for a number of different things and is currently in things such as calculators, light gardens, and battery chargers.

  7. The benefits: Power from the sun is free, no pollution, low maintenance, and cost efficient. • The downfall: The ‘up front cost’ is high, although solar energy is cheaper in the long run its expensive getting started.

  8. Government plans? The Administration released a draft recently identifying six states where solar energy sites would do minimal damage and plan to go from there. • Why isn’t it our number one energy source? Like mentioned earlier, solar energy is expensive to start. In the future it will be more oftenly used though.

  9. The impact on the environment: Solar is a smart alternative fuel, it takes a lot of land to put a concentrated power plant on though. Other than that and the fossil fuels used to begin, it’s a good choice for the environment.

  10. Extra: • Liquid hydrogen is the best alternative fuel for AAN platforms. • Solar is a reliable energy source and also cost efficient over time.
