  4. Goal Determine the time to heat a given strip of FEP with heat gun to melting temperature as to bond with strip of ePTFE

  6. Assumptions • Air jet is circular • Uniform Temperature on FEP surface • FEP as plane-surface • FEP insulated by ePTFE

  7. Analysis T(t)=573 K Ti=300 K T∞=650 K

  8. Results To reach the desired temperature of 573 K, the FEP requires .76 sec in the hot air stream produced by the heat gun.

  9. Results Because the ePTFE was assumed a perfect insulator, the actual time required to reach the desired temperature would be increased.
