The earliest part of the fortification, the White Tower, was built in the 11th century. • Stonehenge is a circular group of massive, upright stones that dates back more than 5,000 years. Stonehenge's purpose is unclear. It is thought that it may have been a type of astronomical calendar for predicting the seasons or a temple built for sky or sun worship. • The English town of Stratford-upon-Avon was the birthplace and home of William Shakespeare. He was born here in 1564, and here he died in 1616. William Shakespeare and his wife, Anne Hathaway, are buried in the Church of the Holy Trinity.
