  1. Presentation to SFYS Meeting4 June 2010 Developing a WMR DEECD regional strategy to support disengaged young people

  2. Context • A number of discussion papers and policies have emerged from DEECD over the past 12 months from both the Student Wellbeing and Youth Transitions Units • The National Partnership on Youth Attainment & Transitions is providing a range of new programs and funding • Now is an opportune time to review WMR strategies around disengaged young people

  3. Starting point • The Pathways to re-engagement through flexible learning options consultation paper talks about a continuum of flexible learning options • This continuum provides a framework to map what is currently happening in Western Metropolitan Region

  4. A continuum of flexible learning options Flexible learning options – the range of programs in school and community settings that support those children and young people at risk of disengaging or already disengaged from education to re-engage in school.

  5. Next steps • Once the mapping exercise is complete transition / wellbeing staff will begin investigating the available data and start identifying the strengths and weaknesses of current provision • From this we will begin to develop a new regional strategic plan • For more information contact: • Karen Marsh marsh.karen.k@edumail.vic.gov.au Andrew Smith smith.andrew.saj@edumail.vic.gov.au
