  2. Introduction This story takes place in the 1660s. This story begins at a Protestant's house. A Catholic couple(Catharina andVermeer) walk in to see about their new maid. Giet a young girl sees this couple walk into their home asking about her being the new maid. Once her mother and they were done, she was to get ready to leave to become the new maid.

  3. Summary Griet packs her bags immediately and walked slowly to her new home. This “home” is on the Oude Langendijck intersecting with Paptisit Corner. Once Griet arrived, Tanneke greeted her and then told Griet all her chores. She told her to go to the Meat Hall and the Fish Mongers every other day, clean the masters studio without moving anything, do the laundry. At the first few days she did all what she was suppose to do. Sometimes her work was better than it should be. In that case, Griet would make up an excuse to make it look like she did not do it. Then once Griet was used to working for the Vemeers, she became a little bit sloppy in her work. Then her master asks her to help him with his work and finally with a painting

  4. Characters • Griet- a housemaid for the Vermeers, a protestant girl with a younger brother named Frans and a sister named Agnes who has died in autumn.

  5. Author Tracy Chevelier is an author of The Lady and the Unicorn, Girl With A Pearl Earring, The Virgin Blue, and Falling Angels.

  6. Book Review She is a wonderful author that I think will go far in writing. Her writing is so descriptive and easy to understand that you would just want to read on and on until you have finished the book. I usually don’t like to read Historical Fiction books but I surely liked this one.
