Ex 3D. INTERPRETATION, INTERPOLATION AND EXTRAPOLATION. MORE INFORMATION. RELIABILITY OF OUR PREDICTIONS. Depends on the r2 (coefficient of determination). The closer the r2 is to one 1, the more confident we can make our predictions (more linear).

  1. Ex 3D INTERPRETATION, INTERPOLATION AND EXTRAPOLATION

  2. MORE INFORMATION

  3. RELIABILITY OF OUR PREDICTIONS Depends on the r2 (coefficient of determination). The closer the r2 is to one 1, the more confident we can make our predictions (more linear). Also depends on the limits of the data set. We do not want to extrapolate too far off the data range, otherwise the accuracy of a prediction is not reliable.

  4. EXAMPLE

  5. INTERPOLATING DATA Use extrapolation to predict the height of the girl when she turns 15. Discuss the reliability of this prediction.

  6. CLASSWORK/HOMEWORK Complete Ex 3D pg127 Q’s 2-9
