  2. GEOMETRIC SEQUENCES • Application type questions involves growth and decay of discrete variables. Eg: population (increase/decrease) financial investments (increase/decrease) depreciation/appreciation interest earned

  3. Geometric Growth • 1. Geometric growth or increase is expressed as a percentage increase • 2. Common ratio (r)= 1+% increase • 3. r values are greater than 1, for example, an 8% increase gives r =1.08

  4. Geometric Decay • 1. Geometric decay or decrease is expressed as a percentage decrease. • 2. Common ratio (r) = 1 - % decrease • 3. r values are less than 1, for example, an 8% decrease gives r = 0.92
