  • This years medals are shaped like rings.
  • The ribbon is knotted around the medal making it a single set, united and very special.
  • The front of the medal shows the graphic elements of the game. The back shows the pictogram of the sports discipline won. The rest is empty, glossy and satiny.

  • There will be a total of 1,838 medals awarded this year – 604 gold,604 silver, and 630 bronze [some events don’t have 3rd or 4th place winners so losers in semi-final rounds get bronze medals.
  • In the ancient Olympics 1st place winners got an olive wreath placed on his head.2nd and 3rd place winners got nothing.
  • Today's gold medals are actually sterling silver covered with a thin coat[6 grams or .21 ounces of pure gold.
