TYLER JUNIOR COLLEGE Home of theApaches History of Apache athletics • The Tyler Junior College Apaches have won a total of 36 National Titles with 26 of those titles in Tennis. In 1927 TJC began its’ basketball program as the TJC Buccaneers, but was voted down by the student body in 1928 and changed to the TJC Apaches. • In 1987, Tyler hired Men’s and Women’s Tennis Coach John Peterson. Men's tennis has won ten national championships under Coach Peterson, and women's tennis has nine national championships to their credit since 1987. • Currently, TJC offers intercollegiate play in Men’s Soccer, Volleyball, Football, Men’s and Women’s Basketball, Baseball, Men’s and Women’s Tennis, and Men’s and Women’s Golf.
TYLER JUNIOR COLLEGE Home of theApaches Current Place in industry • Tyler Junior College Athletics is one of the leading programs in the NJCAA. The NJCAA is using TJC athletic competitions as a sample market for athletic website development as well as the use of Donations Inc. programs at football games. • Tyler Junior College has approximately 10,000 students enrolled of which about 200-300 are certified athletes with the NJCAA. • Almost all of the athletes within the program advance on to compete at the next level at 4-year institutions where they have succeeded both athletically and academically.

TYLER JUNIOR COLLEGE Home of theApaches Internship Objectives • To familiarize myself with the day-to-day operations, both internal and external, within an intercollegiate athletic department. To initiate ideas and programs that will not only lead to this understanding but to also further enhance the athletic department . • To assist and enhance the marketing of Tyler Junior College Athletics. To further increase the revenue generated through sponsorship, publicity, and advertisement sales. • To establish a foundation to institute a student-athlete advisory committee (SAAC) by assisting in the creation of a draft constitution, rules, and agendas. To foster a relationship between the committee and the Athletic Staff. To assist in the preparation of a community service project for the current fall semester and/or the upcoming spring semester

TYLER JUNIOR COLLEGE Home of theApaches Project Description • My project was to assist with the coaching of the women’s volleyball program as well as in the office of the Athletic Department. • I also helped establish TJC’s first Student Athlete Advisory Committee and with them helped run a toy drive in conjunction with the Tyler Fire Fighters.
TYLER JUNIOR COLLEGE Home of theApaches Advice to Future Interns TJC is your chance to do everything related to an athletic department. From selling sponsorships and advertising to setting up the gym for sports events. You also have the opportunity to be in direct contact with student athletes through the Student Athlete Advisory Committee. The best advice for this internship is to get involved. There is no doubt that if you get involved you will learn more and gain a deeper understanding of collegiate athletics.
