  2. What options are there? • Construction Management • Project Management

  3. Who is the programme suitable for? • Managers working in a range of senior roles within the Building and Civil Engineering industry

  4. What is an NVQ ? • structured personal development programme which assesses competance • a nationally recognised qualification • enables candidates to take the Supervisor and Manager CSCS Health and Safety test and if successful, obtain a Platimum or Black CSCS Card • eligiblity to apply for membership of the CIOB, IHIE and ICE and similar professional institutes.

  5. How is Competance Assessed? • The NVQ programme combines ongoing assessments against the NVQ standards relating to specific areas of supervision

  6. How will assessment and support be provided? • Assessor, who acts as mentor and guide • induction day • briefing and assessment days for each of the units

  7. What units will you need? For the NVQ you will need: Construction Management: • 5 Mandatory units • 5 from the 11 Optional units Project Management: • 5 Mandatory units • 3 from the 6 Technical Optional units • 3 from the 6 Managerial Optional units All units are shown in your course folder

  8. How Long will it take? • within two years • most candidates will complete it in approximately 18 months • course fees quoted are for completion within a two year period .

  10. Producing the Portfolio

Procedure • Read the criteria required for the unit • Determine what documentation you can produce that show YOU have met that criteria • Produce action plan for each unit • Collect the documents and compile into a portfolio • Ensure that they relate to the unit i.e. Safety • Ensure the documents can be tracked for each unit

Ensure • All documents relate to your work and can be shown to be used by you • A variety of documents are used • Several pieces of evidence for each criteria • Breadth and depth of understanding must be shown • Level of evidence must conform to Level 5 which is senior manager/director level.

  14. Timetable • There will be briefing/assessment day for each of the units every 5-6 weeks • Candidates will bring with them work for assessment to each of the briefing assessment days

  16. Next Move • Look through Unit 1 and for each criteria determine what documents you have that can meet the criteria. • Take a copy of the documents • Bring to the next meeting
