  7. How to use e-technology to simplify and streamline NVQ assessment without loss of quality Terry Loane

  8. Two related questions: • How can the use of e-technology to gather and store NVQ evidence help us to streamline the assessment process? • How can the use of e-technology make the NVQ process better and easier for candidate, assessor and internal verifier?

  9. What do you do at the moment in terms of using e-technology to: • gather and store NVQ evidence in a way that helps to streamline the assessment process? • make the NVQ process better and easier for candidate, assessor and internal verifier?

  10. A definition? Today I will used the term ‘e-portfolio’ to refer to any use of e-technology to gather or store NVQ evidence.

  11. E-Portfolios: Where? • CD-ROM • Memory stick • An organisation’s network • Online

  12. E-Portfolios: How? • Creating ‘local’ e-portfolios using memory sticks, CD-ROMs etc • Creating online NVQ portfolios using open source solutions • Using commercial e-portfolio products to create online portfolios

  13. OCR is committed to the use of e-portfolios and is keen to support their use across a variety of NVQs. In fact, many OCR centres already use a variety of e-portfolio products. We are happy for these uses to continue in whatever format is appropriate and convenient for the centre and its candidates, providing they can be verified by our external verifier team.

  14. There is a useful OCR document about e-portfolios at: http://tinyurl.com/2edh4z

  15. Commercial products Some information is available from: http://tinyurl.com/3yxewz (http://www.nvqweb.com/e_learning_and_assessment.htm )

  16. E-Portfolios: Issues • Is the e-portfolio secure? • What about authenticating evidence? Do we still need signatures? • What are the pros and cons of commercial e-portfolio systems? • How is the world of e-portfolios likely to develop in the next few years?

  17. Tasks • Commercial e-portfolios: http://tinyurl.com/3yxewz • Moodle: http://www.cgfl.org.uk/tl2 • Eduspaces (Elgg): http://eduspaces.net
