  1. Supported platforms • Supported platforms: • AIX 4.3.2 • HP-UX 10.20 • Solaris 2.6  requested by BaBar, 2.7 is requested by STAR • Linux (RedHat 5.2)  requested by D0, RedHat 6.1 is now requested by STAR and AUGER • All groups/experiments share the same interactive and batch (BQS) farms and other services.

  2. Support for experiments • About 30 different High Energy, Astrophysics and Nuclear Physics experiments. • LHC experiments: CMS, Atlas, Alice and LHCb. • Big non-CERN experiments: BaBar, D0, STAR, AUGER, EROS II.

  3. Regional Center for: • EROS II (Expérience de Recherches d’Objets Sombres par effet de lentilles gravitationnelles) • BaBar • Auger (PAO) • D0

  4. BaBar • AIX and HP-UX not supported by BaBar, Solaris 2.6 with Workshop 4.2 is the actual supported platform, Linux (RedHat 6.1?) in the future? • Data are stored in ObjectivityDB, import/export of data is done using tapes with a lot of manual operations. The big files (>2GB) are transferred using bbftp. • Objectivity (ams/oofs) servers (dedicated only to BaBar) have been installed. • Usage of HPSS for staging the ObjectivityDB files.

  5. PAO - AUGER • CCIN2P3 is acting as AECC (AUGER European CC). • Access granted to all AUGER users (AFS accounts provided). • CVS repository for AUGER software has been installed at CCIN2P3, access from AFS (from the local and non-local cells) and from non-AFS environment using ssh. • Linux is the preferred platform. • Simulation software based on Fortran programs.

  6. D0 • Linux is one of D0 supported platforms and is available at CCIN2P3. • D0 software is using the KAI C++ compiler (old 3.3 version working with RedHat 5.2 without flexLM server for licensing). • Import/export of D0 data (using internal Enstore format) creates the big problem for CCIN2P3.

  7. Import/export CERN CASTOR HPSS SLAC HPSS CCIN2P3 ? ? ? ? FNAL ENSTORE BNL HPSS

  8. Another example Even the CERN developed packages (in LHC++) contain experiment specific parts:

  9. Conclusions • The data exchange should be done using the standards (e.g. tape formats) and common access interfaces (rfio is a good example). • Needs for better coordination between experiments, similar requirements on supported systems and compilers. • The choice of the CASE technologie is out of the control of the Regional Computer Center. • GRID will require more uniform configuration of the distributed elements. • Who can help? HEPCCC? HEPiX?
