  1. G4Beamline Analysis of theMICE AUG05 Beamline Design Tom Roberts Muons, Inc.

  2. Background • This is the AUG05 beamline design from Kevin Tilley and Dean Adams • It is quite similar to the SEPT04 design, except: • A collimator has been added just in front of Q4 • Some elements have moved slightly • Magnet currents are quite different, as are the central pion and muon momenta • This design achieves the desired muon momentum at the center of Tracker1, and is much closer to the desired 6π mm-radian emittance • This design also achieves a higher good-μ+ rate for the same target assumptions as before

  3. Generated π+ Beam • Uniform, with the following limits: -2.57 mm < X < 2.57 mm -1.00 mm < Y < 1.00 mm -0.040 < X’ < 0.040 -0.020 < Y’ < 0.020 423.42 MeV/c < Ptot < 457.42 MeV/c

  4. Just in Front of the Collimator

  5. Just Behind the Collimator

  9. Just in Front of the Diffuser

  10. Just Behind the Diffuser

  11. Rates (Singles per ms)

  12. Rates (Singles per ms)Target insertion reduced to get 600 good mu+/sec

  13. Summary • The AUG05 beamline design comes closer to our desired 6π 200 MeV/c beam than any previous design • It also generates almost twice as many Good μ+per second as SEPT04, for the same targeting assumptions
