How to form a chapter • A Chapter is a technical subunit of one or more Sections, or a Council • constituted by a minimum of twelve (12) members of a Society • established by petition to the parent unit(s) and Societies • Petition, signed by not less than twelve (12) Section members • above Student grade • members of the Society (6 months) • Submit petition to the Section Executive Committee, via the Section Secretary, for approval. • Submit a business plan that includes mission/goals, planned meetings and activities for first 6 months

Chapter Requirements • Annual report (year end) to the parent Section: • meeting activity • financial activity and • current officers • Chapter may be dissolved if there are no reports submitted for 3 consecutive years. • IEEE Bylaws require that a Chapter: • maintain a membership of not fewer than ten members, other than Students • hold not less than two technical meetings per year.

Chapter Requirements (con’t) • Meeting: Section will be credited money for each Chapter that holds at least two (2) technical meetings per year. • Officer Reports: a list of the Chapter officers, along with member numbers and contact information • submitted to the Section Secretary • Financial Activity Reports: income and expense information • consolidated into the Section Financial report (L-50). • Chapters maintaining a separate bank account and/or involved in a lot of financial activity may submit a separate financial report (A copy to the Section Treasurer.)

Organizing Student Outreach - Industry Chapter Meetings • Meetings are one of the most visible and valuable ways in which a Chapter serves its members • Basics: • Select a topic of interest and format - Presentations, Panel Discussions, Workshops • Select subject matter experts from Industry, Academiaand IEEE Distinguished Lecturers list • Seek Financial Support • Logistics: location, venue and schedule • Publicity

  19. Organizing Student Outreach - Industry Chapter Meetings • Plan a social dimension - time for networking- Provide Breaks and a Luncheon • - Business Card Exchange Print cards for students- Serve refreshments
