BELLWORK • Take your article and questions from the article “Chickens go back-way back- to their roots”. • Write down and Underline the title of the article. • Now, make a prediction (write 2 to 3 sentences predicting what the article is about).   3. UNRA(A)VEL Just so you know: UNRA(A)VEL is a great way to work through an article. This is a PROVEN test taking strategy that works.

  4. UNRA(A)VEL COPY the strategy onto your paper: (read the steps aloud) Underline the Title Now predict the purpose of the piece Run through and number the paragraphs Are you reading the questions? (A)re important words circled/underlined? Venture through the article Eliminate any incorrect answers not supported by evidence in the article L et the questions be answered

  5. UNRA(A)VEL WITH A PARTNER (at your desk group) discuss your predictions from first 2 steps: • Can you connect with your predictions to any previous knowledge? • Have students share and compare their predictions.

  6. UNRA(A)VEL R: Run through and number the paragraphs Number each paragraph 1,2,3 … Then when you locate answers, you can write the paragraph number next to the questions quickly. *This is a GREAT test-taking skill!!

  7. UNRA(A)VEL • A: Are you reading the questions? • Pre-read each question and focus on important information. • Remember to use your numbered paragraphs to help locate answers.

  8. UNRA(A)VEL • A: Are important words circled/underlined? • Circle or underline important words. • Remember your questions. • Use these important words to help you locate information quickly, as well as, stay focused on the reading.

  9. UNRA(A)VEL • V: Venture through the article • Read from the article, “Chickens go back-way back- to their roots”.

  10. UNRA(A)VEL • E: Eliminate any incorrect answers not supported by evidence in the article • Eliminate any answers choices not supported by evidence giving you less answer choices and making it easier to locate the correct answer. • Share what you eliminated and WHY??

  11. UNRA(A)VEL • L: Let the questions be answered! • Answer the questions to the article utilizing the UNRA(A)VEL steps. • Make sure you double check your answers leaving none unanswered.

  12. EXIT TICKET • List the 2 UNRA(A)VEL strategies you found most helpful. 2. Write two to three sentences explaining how UNRA(A)VEL helped you read and comprehend what you’ve read.
