  2. What is it? • A literacy strategy used to introduce a new content area chapter • Also great for reviewing, summarizing, or celebrating a reading selection • The teacher chooses passages for the student to read usually from their text • It is way to turn the learning over to the teacher.

  3. Steps • Teacher chooses excerpt from the reading material, print them and glue them to index cards. The teacher will pass them out to the students in groups of two or three

  4. Step 2 2. The students then read the chosen passage, fact, information and discuss them with their individual groups.

  5. Step 3 3. The students then move around the classroom for 10-15 min. and share their excerpts with others.

  6. Step 4 4. After returning to their seats, students share with the entire class what they have learn in a group discussion format for 10 minutes.

  7. Step 5 5. The teacher provide questions that the students should be able to answer as a exit pass.

  8. What subjects can use this strategy? • All of them • With French, Spanish (your topic could be conversations you have, learning verb tense, or vocabulary) • With Math or science it could be the to start a new unit or to review for a test. • With P.E. it could be to introduce a new sport, personal fitness, or drivers ed. • With life management or the other electives you could use it to teach steps for filling out checks, or ways to learn to cook.
