The Safety of America's Food Supply: Claims and Realities

In the U.S., leaders across agriculture consistently assert that the food supply is the safest in the world, a claim echoed since the 1970s. From USDA officials to Senator Dick Durbin, many emphasize the rigorous audits and humane handling programs in place, such as those reported in a 2007 audit scoring 106 out of 110 points. However, amidst claims of safety, questions arise about transparency and effectiveness. Can we trust these assurances, and what measures, like mandatory recall authority, are in place to ensure public health?
