Burn test: Styrene/polyester resin spray application. Test conducted in ~1983 near Portland, OR. Constructing spray booth. Attaching resin feed line to spray gun. Blue hose is attached to overhead sprinkler. Resin drum and pump (on truck), remote control for spray gun.

  1. Burn test:Styrene/polyester resin spray application Test conducted in ~1983 near Portland, OR

  2. Constructing spray booth.

  3. Attaching resin feed line to spray gun.Blue hose is attached to overhead sprinkler.

  4. Resin drum and pump (on truck), remote control for spray gun.

  5. Start of resin spray. Spray will continue to allow accumulation of resin on floor and back wall. Duct in rear allows air flow.

  6. Fire started in resin (overspray) using torch.(Photo shows reenactment of this step following test.)

  7. Resin on booth floor burning…spray continues but does not burn.

  8. Resin on booth floor burning…resin spray does not burn.

  9. Resin on booth floor burning…resin spray does not burn.

  10. Resin on booth floor burning…resin spray does not burn.

  11. Fire spreading to resin on back wall of booth…resin spray continues but does not burn.

  12. Resin burning on floor and back of booth, but resin spray is not burning.

  13. Sprinkler starts…resin spray stopped.

  14. Sprinkler working…

  15. Sprinkler working…

  16. Flame extinguished, approx. 15 seconds following sprinkler start.

  17. Flame (butane torch) applied to resin spray…difficult to light.

  18. Resin spray burning while flame still applied.

  19. Flame removed … spray continues but no longer burns … resin on back wall burns.

  20. Resin on back wall burns…spray continues but does not burn.

  21. Resin on back wall burns…spray continues but does not burn.

  22. Water applied by hand-held hose.

  23. Water applied by hand-held hose.

  24. Fire extinguished.
